DESIGN 204

This design has been made in a silk-covered wooden box, around 3" high. I began by lining the box with a double layer of tinfoil, to make it waterproof. Then I added floral foam, around half the depth of the box, cutting it to fit right to the edges of the box. I marked the foam into six equal squares, then filled each square with a different type of flower. I used (top row l to r in the picture) green "Yoko Ono" spray Chrysanthemums, Brunia albiflora, orange roses, (bottom row l to r) Viburnum opulus "Rosea", orange standard Carnations, and more "Yoko Ono" Chrysanthemums. All the flowers were cut short and massed together to form blocks of colour. Finally, I defined the edges of the box and each square with lengths of Equisetum hyemalis (Snake Grass), cut to size. This design is best viewed from above, and so would be suitable for a low coffee table, side table, or similar position.
